The Maritime Opening Day at NMCI proves huge success

The National Maritime College of Ireland had its annual Maritime Opening Day on the 3rd of November, which was a huge success for all participants. The Maritime Opening Day is a great opportunity for prospective students to have a quick look at the fabulous maritime facilities of the NMCI and over 400 students and parents from all over Ireland seized this opportunity.

The huge number of visitors made this year’s event a massive success and the students were literally blown away with the demonstration on sea survival. The demonstration took place in the 20m x 8m indoor pool. The potential students got to see all the pool has to offer. So the NMCI showed them what they can expect at sea with their simulation conditions in the pool. These conditions include wind, rain, thunder and lightning and last but not least waves. Furthermore, the bridge simulator was a big attraction because the students were treated to a simulator trip all the way to the harbour of Sydney. The students thoroughly enjoyed the bridge simulator and got also to see the sports facilities, which included the 16.5m x 31m indoor sports hall and additionally the weights and cardiovascular room.

Students had also the opportunity to get in touch with shipping companies and other organisations, which attended the open day. The feedback we got from these companies was very positive and they were delighted to see the high level of interest shown by the students in regards to seafaring careers. Moreover, NMCI Services is very delighted with the huge level of enquiries in its offshore courses.
