Mitochon Systems, a provider of free certified EMR systems and connectivity solutions for physicians, will soon announce its mobile device strategy for use of its electronic medical record system across IPhone, IPad and Android platforms.

Newport Beach, CA, December 21, 2010 — Mitochon Systems, a provider of free certified EMR systems and connectivity solutions for physicians, will soon announce its mobile device strategy for use of its electronic medical record system across IPhone, IPad and Android platforms. At this point in time, since the company’s EMR platform is not Adobe Flash based, it’s EMR has 100% functionality on widely used mobile devices. The company plans to use this high level of functionality as a launching point for its mobile strategy to offer a series of features designed for the physician who wishes to practice medicine wherever and whenever he chooses. This announcement comes in the wake of its closest free EMR competitor, Practice Fusion, failing to operate properly due to insufficient rendering on mobile devices, including the widely used IPad from Apple.

Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, commented on his company’s stance regarding use of Flash on mobile devices, “Flash was created during the PC era – for PCs and mice…the mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards – all areas where Flash falls short.” Jobs continued, “Rather than use Flash, Apple has adopted HTML5, CSS and JavaScript – all open standards. Apple’s mobile devices all ship with high performance, low power implementations of these open standards. HTML5, the new web standard that has been adopted by Apple, Google and many others, lets web developers create advanced graphics, typography, animations and transitions without relying on third party browser plug-ins (like Flash).”

Since Mitochon’s closest free EMR competitor, Practice Fusion, uses a platform built primarily on Flash, physicians are experiencing significant usability issues when used on mobile based, non-Flash compliant mobile platforms. “Our EMR was built to deal with the reality that physicians want to be mobile while they are practicing medicine, whether is it down the hall, down the street or across the country. We want to support their desire to practice from wherever they choose.” said Chris Riley, Mitochon Systems Chief Executive Officer.

“While Flash is aesthetically pleasing, it hasn’t been adopted by many mobile based platforms because of issues with speed and system support.” said Chris Riley, Mitochon Systems Chief Executive Officer. “Physicians who are looking to interact with their office or EMR using their IPhone, IPad or Android will experience significant functionality and usability obstacles with the Practice Fusion EMR, or other Flash-driven EMR systems. With Mitochon’s EMR, they’ll be off and running.”
