8 September 2009 – A new piece of research conducted by leading car hire price comparator Carrentals.co.uk has shown that British road users are putting lives in danger through driving habits. Results showed 1 in 3 UK drivers have watched a video iPod or DVD player while driving a car.
The company’s research revealed that a surprising 1 in 3 drivers have witnessed other road users driving a car when watching a video iPod or portable DVD player, showing a concerning rise in the practice.
The car hire specialist admitted that its survey had showed 1 in 5 motorists has seen evidence of dangerous driving brought on by drivers who are watching movies or shows while driving.
Gareth Robinson, managing director of car hire specialist Carrentals.co.uk, comments: “The facts that our research revealed were pretty shocking to be honest, and while we assumed we would hear about the usual dangers of drink driving and driving when too tired, we were surprised to find that so many people watch video iPods when in control of a vehicle.”
“We even had one respondent say that they had observed one driver who was driving along with a video iPod sellotaped to their car steering wheel, which was pretty amazing. Clearly more needs to be done to educate people about how dangerous this trend is.”
