In a year when there is not much to go around The Nourishing Kitchen of New York City and Rao’s Restaurant of New York City are combating hunger. From now until December 19th at 2:43 pm a table for four is up for auction on Ebay. This is only the second time in five years that Rao’s has donated a table for a charity auction. All of the proceeds from this once in a life time experience go to fund the Nourishing Kitchen’s Junior Chef program.
“Helping the kids in this community is a priority for us here at Rao’s,” said Susan Paolercio of Rao’s. “You look around and can see a lot of unhealthy kids in the neighborhood; they need the Junior Chef Program.” The Junior Chef’s are a group of children from the ages of 8-13 that get six weeks of hands-on nutritional and culinary instruction from award-winning chef Gina Puzzanghera. “To give the youth of this community the education that they desperately need is what we try to do at The Nourishing Kitchen, said Chef Gina Puzzanghera. “We offer nutritional training to all ages throughout the year and people love it and use the information given but when your son or daughter comes home and wants to eat better, big changes can be seen at home.”
The auction will end on December 19th with the reservations set for December 28th at 7:00 pm. The reservation also includes $300.00 in food and wine for the table. Rao’s of New York City is home to diners such as Tom Cruise, Madonna, Ron Howard, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, and Donald Trump. With a table not open until 2011 this may be the only chance to skip the line and have bragging rights for years to come.
