Dryer vent cleaners all over the nation are on a mission to promote dryer vent cleaning to prevent dryer fires
Dryer vent cleaning may have prevented a dryer fire in Livonia that caused about $20,000 in damage. No one was home when the fire started and spread through the wall of the laundry room into the kitchen. Thanks to an alert neighbor who called 911, the home was not a total loss.
Over 17,000 house fires resulting in deaths, injuries and millions of dollars in damages occur each year as a result of clogged dryer vent systems. Dryer Vent Wizard joins efforts with the NFPA to promote awareness as they educate their customers with valuable tips and information on dryer fire prevention.
Charles Dillard is the Oak Park Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard who is often heard “venting” about the devastation of dryer fires and how easily they can be prevented. Dillard explained, “Most dryer fires are caused by clogged dryer vents. Lint is highly flammable; when it accumulates in dryer ducts it becomes a fire hazard. I recommend everyone have their dryer vent system inspected for safety and that all clothes dryer vents be cleaned annually.”
The Wizard advises his customers that the most common warning sign of lint build-up is when dryers start taking longer to dry each load. Other warnings include the top of the dryer is hot to touch when running, excess heat and humidity in the laundry room, clothes hot to touch after a dry cycle and clothes come out with a moldy or smoky smell.
Charles Dillard makes sure all his customers know that they should not leave the house or go to sleep when the dryer is running. “Treat your dryer like a child and never leave it unattended!” said Dillard.
