ANAHEIM, Calif.27 April 2011 – Cadets, faculty, and staff from St. Catherine’s Academy, a boys’ Catholic school in Orange County, participated in the veneration of a relic of Saint Mary Magdalene at St. Boniface Church on Monday, March 07, 2011. The relic, which is a portion of the saint’s tibia, is currently on tour in California.
All 157 members of the student body along with faculty and staff followed the relic into the church carrying votive candles. Students then joined the community in venerating the relic and also acted as guides of the relic and ushers.
The relic is travelling with Father François LeHégaret and Father Thomas Michelet, Dominican priests from St. Baume, France. This connection to the Dominican order made the visit especially significant for St. Catherine’s, which is sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose. The relic is currently on tour and will visit a number of California Catholic schools and churches.
“It was very special to see and venerate the relic of Saint Mary Magdalene, who is honored as an important patroness of our Dominican Order,” said Sister Mara Anne Palomares, OP, the school’s assistant administrator.
St. Catherine’s Academy, founded in 1889 by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, is a Catholic school in Orange County with a military tradition for boys in kindergarten through 8th grade. The school offers both day and boarding opportunities.
