Martyn Pellew, PD Ports’ group development director, has stepped down after eight years from his full time role with the Company, to pursue other interests and broaden his portfolio.
Martyn, who has been with PD Ports since August 2002, was responsible for the rebranding of all the former Powell Duffryn owned port and shipping businesses under the PD Ports identity. More importantly Martyn played an integral role in repositioning PD Ports as a major player in the global maritime and UK logistics sectors, ensuring that the business is recognised by the market and all stakeholders as genuinely able to ‘punch above its weight’.
As group development director, Martyn’s dedicated and tireless work in promoting the interests of PD Ports will continue to benefit the Company in years to come. His involvement in the successful ‘Northern Gateway’ campaign, whilst not yet fully delivered, has helped lay a very solid platform for such a development in the longer term.
August this year saw the culmination of over four years of Martyn’s work on the Tall Ships Races project, a very special event that was a great success for both Hartlepool and PD Ports, and which surely could not have been so resoundingly successful without Martyn’s expertise and determination to deliver.
“I would like to put on record my personal, as well as our collective thanks, to Martyn for all that has been achieved by him and us as a result of his personal energy and commitment to the cause at all times,” commented David Robinson, PD Ports’ Group chief executive officer.
In 2011 and beyond, PD Ports will continue its efforts to further grow and develop the business, investing in new opportunities and exploring new markets. This will include continuing to pursue a foothold in the renewable energy sector through the Chain Reaction campaign and expansion of its existing container handling facilities to position Teesport as a major container hub.
Martyn will continue to act as an advisor to PD Ports on relevant business matters and the Company will actively continue to support his Presidency of the North East Chamber of Commerce. Martyn is also a non executive director at North East based engineering information management firm, Pearson Harper, a board member of regeneration organisation, Tees Valley Unlimited and advisory service, Business & Enterprise North East.
