Summary:
During the holiday season, it always seems like our pets get into more mischief than at any other time during the year. Which begs the question, why?
Content:
Answer: We make it easy for them. Consider the family Christmas tree for example. Then consider how Max, the family pup, abandons his regular drinking bowl to refresh himself with tree water. Why does he do this? Well, because tree water is clearly tastier than anything out of the tap of course. So while you can’t figure out how the newly cut tree is absorbing so much water so quickly, Max is laying out in front of the fire completely hydrated burping up pine needles. Case and point, most families don’t have a large tree inside their house all year, so, naturally, it’s hard to monitor the dog’s drinking habits. At least you’ll know that even if your tree is as dry as a bone at the end of the holiday season, that Max chooses the tree water and not the toilet.
The family cat is no saint. If provided the opportunity, it too will raise holiday mayhem. Consider the holiday eggnog punch bowl. Then consider Tabitha, the family tabby cat, lurking under the table while everyone is eating. She spots the eggnog, and slyly strolls over to the punch bowl’s location. She then picks up a familiar sent: dairy, and like a flying reindeer, leaps on to the counter. So, while the rest of the family is busy passing around the gravy boat in assembly line fashion, Tabitha begins to slurp away. Does anyone see her? No, because they are in the dining room and Tabitha is in the kitchen. Little does Tabitha know, however, that Uncle Frank has recently spiked the eggnog with cheap brandy, and now she’s in for a long night? In fact, most of the family is, once they’ve learned they’ve been drinking out of the same bowl as the family cat.
Aww, yes, the holidays are a wonderful time to show your pet how much you love them. They’re also a perfect time for your pets to show you, how dearly they love tree water and eggnog…oh, and you of course.
