May 28, 2008 – Yakima, WA – Television personality Jade Esteban Estrada earned a standing ovation for his performance of “Pico de Gallo” on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Seasons Music Hall in Yakima, Washington. The show was presented by Yakima Valley Community College as part of their annual Diversity Series: Challenging Our Thinking. The bilingual performance was followed by a audience discussion with the artist. For more information visit www.getjaded.com or www.yvcc.edu/diversity.

“I loved Jade Esteban Estrada’s performance,” stated Maria Cuevas, curator for the event. “It was a collage of characters with seemingly no link. But as I looked closer, I realized they tied into the Chicano/a or Latino/a experience in the United States. They are all real people. You know them. ‘Mi tio’ who runs the bar down the street or ‘la mensa’ – the niece who can’t seem to get it together while having one child after the other only to have ‘mama’ or ‘abuelita’ care for her sins – ‘el senor sin papeles’ from down the street who is so kind and helpful believing the best in ‘Our America’ but not quite sure after a few months in the states. I just loved the show. Ever time I thought about a character or a line, it brought to me a different understanding… that we are not a monolithic culture. We are full of spice or dare I say it – Pico de Gallo!”

“From one character to the next, he unravels a multitude of stories, songs and humorous contradictions in a celebration of the heartbeat of Latino culture,” states the Boise Weekly. “You definitely shouldn’t miss Jade Esteban Estrada,” warns Mark Lowry of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Estrada, who has been praised by critics around the country for his skillful onstage transformations, is the host of the 19th Annual South Florida GLAAD Media Awards scheduled to air on Bravo on June 27, 2008.

His last visit to Yakima was in March 2008 when he presented his solo musical “ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 2” at Rainbow Cathedral Metropolitan Community Church.

He stars in the upcoming sci-fi action film “The Innocent Killers” directed by Brett Mauser. The film will screen a sneak preview at the Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes Cinema in San Antonio, Texas on June 29, 2008.
