San Diego, CA, June 10, 2010 — Whether you visit San Diego or live here, if you are looking for an affordable, exciting, and culturally rich experience this summer – Think San Diego!

San Diego’s many diverse communities have yielded a booming local art scene, with exhibitions that spotlight our local emerging artists:

• “Here Not There: San Diego Art Now” at the Museum of Contemporary ART SAN DIEGO in La Jolla (June 6 – Sept. 19) which focuses on the range of individual and collective contemporary art practices in the San Diego region.
• The San Diego Museum of Arts Summer Salon Series, celebrating the legacy of Toulouse-Lautrec and his work in the salons of Paris. SDMA is partnering with Agitprop to bring a series of Thursday night Parisian-style salons to the museum. Throughout the summer, you can meet and greet with San Diego’s most interesting emerging artists. (May 27 – Sept. 2)
• ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Fair (Sept. 2-5) will feature several local galleries that will feature many established and emerging artists from San Diego alongside international artists, two spotlight exhibitions of the 2010 San Diego Art Prize recipients, as well as local performing artists.
• ARTS MONTH San Diego/ SEPTEMBER a collaboration between dozens of local visual and performing arts organizations and will promote city-wide programming.

In addition, visual artists are reclaiming old factories and abandoned warehouses converting them into galleries and performance spaces. Several of these spaces will produce special programming in conjunction with the ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Fair. Glashaus in Barrio Logan, an artist collective, will feature an exhibition called “Creatures of Industry.” Also in Barrio Logan, Set & Drift another artist-run collective, will feature a multi-discipline exhibition showcasing the blurring of lines between art and design. Additionally, Space4Art, a progressive co-op of artists, architects, writers and musicians has just opened its doors in East Village and will begin monthly programming.

Diverse groups like Sight & Sound are creating monthly interdisciplinary music & art events in North Park and beyond. A special free concert will be held on Sept. 3rd on the San Diego Bayfront as part of ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Fair to kick off ARTS MONTH San Diego. It will be a massive celebration of the arts in San Diego.

In September, ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Fair presented by UBS Financial Services and Amtrak, the official transportation sponsor of ASD 2010 and Arts Month SD, will kick off ARTS MONTH San Diego – a month-long celebration of the arts in San Diego.

ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Fair (Sept. 2-5) is a one-stop shopping experience for both established and emerging art collectors, coupled with VIP parties, stimulating visual and performing arts exhibitions, wine and food events, and live musical performances.

ARTS MONTH San Diego is a collaboration between dozens of local visual and performing arts organizations and will promote city-wide programming: a world-class exhibition at the downtown Museum of Contemporary ART SAN DIEGO called “Viva La Revolucion,” an International Dance exhibition by Patricia Rincon, San Diego Film Fesitval, and an ArtWalk on the Bay. Kids are included too with special programming at the New Children’s Museum and through ArtREACH, part of ArtWalk on the Bay.
