Dr. R. Sundarason has announced today the relaunch of his overhauled plastic surgery and hair clinic website that now features the latest technique in hair transplantation, based on “nature’s way”, the follicular unit extraction.
According to Dr. Sundarason, the follicular approach to hair transplantation means transferring healthy hair from the back and sides of the head to the balding areas. “This hair is usually genetically programmed to last into advanced old age. Put another way, it will last as long in its new site as it would have in its old site,” he said.
The fact that a person’s bald area now has no hair, Dr. Sundarason said does not mean it is not good “soil” for hair to grow in. “If we take healthy hair from the back or sides, it will grow equally well in the balding area. This fact is of basic importance to the transplantation process,” he added.
He further pointed out a second key fact concerning size pointed to the grafts that are usually used. “We do not use the larger grafts, known as ‘plugs’, as experience has shown that these result in an unnatural appearance, commonly referred to as ‘rows of corn’, or ‘dolls-hair’,” explained by Dr. Sundarason.
However, the use of sophisticated microscopes, he noted, could effectively transplant clusters of one to four strands of hairs. Nature grows hair in these small follicular units, and that is the way Dr. Sundarason prefers to transplant them.
“That is nature’s way, and that is also why this method produces the most natural-looking result,” said the Ministry Of Health’s accredited specialist plastic surgeon.
Dr R. Sundarason, a member of the Singapore Association of Plastic Surgeon and the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons, also performs hair transplants surgery for variety of reasons.
