The Accounting department is the backbone of every business large and small. From it springs the strategies instrumental to the business’ future. It conveys to the public, particularly to the land’s law and generally to fellow investors the financial position of that business. So crucial is the role of accounting that businesses cannot exist without the expertise and aptness of accounting professionals.

Just how an economy fares can be ascertained on how well its businesses turn out—either poorly or proliferating. Doubtless, economies with stable growth from businesses organizations may entail that accounting practices have been remarkable for how else can a business investor know how which decision to implement not only to stay in business, but to develop as well, if not through the principles underlying the accounting and its ensuing functions?

Singapore understands very well the pivotal role of accounting. Since 2009, the city-state has become a host to Southeast Asia’s first office of Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, (ICAEW) coordinating and supporting ICAEW initiatives across Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei, and Singapore.

With its objective of helping these economies to compete globally, ICAEW, the world’s largest accountancy and finance organization, is resolute in providing training of the ACA qualification to countries across the South East Asia region. Among others, governments and regulators of these South East Asia will be given access to the institute’s knowledge and expertise.

“For a business to see success, it needs to operate in a framework attractive to investors and simultaneously enabling it to export services or products” remarked ICAEW’s president, David Furst, during the launching of Singapore’s ICAEW office, “the regional office established in Singapore will endeavor to help build that framework and share with SEA’s economies the experience gained from other markets across the borders.”

In line to such objective, Singapore’s Committee to Develop the Accountancy Sector (CDAS) issued a recommendation to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) to implement the former’s initiatives which will touch on three key elements that are all centered on Singapore’s goal of becoming the leading center in Asia and beyond for Accountancy Talent, Education, Thought Leadership and Professional Development.

“The initiatives bestow a concrete map for the profession in Singapore, constructing the city-state’s already high-end reputation on the international platform,” commented ACCA’s Chief Executive Helen Brand of the implementation procedure.
