England, UK June 25, 2009 — Today, age is no barrier to becoming a model. If you stay healthy, take care of yourself, and pay attention to your personal style, you will find opportunities to work as model well into old age.

According to Damian O’Connor, Managing Director of Models Direct, one of the largest modelling agencies in the UK, more and more clients are trying to find a model of a certain age to fit a particular brief.

“Sometimes a client or art director will want to appeal to a certain demographic, for example in an advertising campaign, so they will ask for an older model,” says O’Connor. “But other times they are simply trying to portray a mix of people in the photo shoot, both young and old.”

One of the keys to maintaining a modelling career into your middle years and beyond, says O’Connor, is knowing what works for you from a style point of view, and making the most of that.

O’Connor says that women who are interested in starting a career in modelling will find a lot of useful information online. In a recent interview for example, celebrity stylist and fashionista Robert Verdi gives a number of indispensable style tips. Verdi is the presenter of She’s Got The Look, a reality TV modelling show where all the contestants are 35 years of age or older.

“Know your ,” says Verdi. “But the flaw isn’t necessarily what other people see, it’s what you see. So if you’re self-conscious about something, make sure you dress it up properly. If you don’t like your arms, don’t wear a tank top. Otherwise, you’ll end up showing that in your body language and you’ll collapse into yourself. I don’t buy short sleeve shirts because I don’t like my arms. You’ll never see me in one, even in the desert!”
