Turkey Preferred Tourism Destination for Europeans

Even in an environment of global financial crisis, when tourism industries all around the world have shown downward trend, number of international tourist arrivals to Turkey has witnessed strong growth of 6.32% year-on-year in July to 4.34 Million tourists.

Our new research report “Turkey Tourism Industry Forecast to 2012” has attributed this upsurge in tourist arrivals to the growing popularity of Turkey as a preferred tourism destination and government’s promotional campaigns that have attracted tourists from different corners of the world.

Turkey has become a preferred tourism destination for many countries in Europe. European countries account for the highest number of tourist arrivals in Turkey, with Germany having a major share of around 4.5 Million tourists in 2008 followed by Russia and UK. The contribution of Europe to the Turkish tourism industry has increased significantly over the past due to strong promotional activities conducted by the Turkish government and due to the proximity of Europe to the country.

As per the research report, the Turkish government and tourism board are running various promotional campaigns at domestic and international level. For instance – the tourism board has launched a campaign “Unlimited Turkey”, due to which tourist arrivals from the US, the worst hit market by recession, has shown a growth of around 2.5% in the first four months of 2009 over the same period last year.
