London, UK, May, 14, 2009 – Turton Middleton, the Norwich based creative agency, has won the coveted Best Advertising Campaign category at the 2009 Creative East Awards for its work in bringing to market, The Original London Banger, a new sausage brand aimed specifically at Londoners. The campaign was also a Finalist in the Best Creative Campaign category.

Turton Middleton was briefed by its client, Tulip Ltd, to create a brand identity, packaging and advertising campaign for a new meaty sausage, made from British pork and aimed at the London market. The agency created The Original London Banger brand – focusing on the British origins of the product. The packaging for sausages features a Union Jack flag and the copy is in Cockney rhyming slang, with the strap-line ‘Well worth a butcher’s!’

The Original London Banger launched across London with a £1m advertising campaign in Tube carriages, on escalator panels, and inside London buses. A dedicated website and facebook page were also produced, complete with a Cockney rhyming slang dictionary, recipes and information on the brand. The Original London Banger is now on sale in Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrisons and Somerfield.

The Creative East Awards are a celebration of the wealth of creative talent across Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, and Bedfordshire. The 2009 awards, hosted by Clive Anderson, were held at the Theatre Royal, Norwich on Friday 8th May. Judges included Peter Murray-White, Managing Director of The White Company, Scott Hansell, founder and Managing Director of marketing communications agency, CCL and David Walker who is responsible for Kellogg’s promotional work in the UK and Europe. In winning the Best Advertising Campaign category, Turton Middleton had to demonstrate the effectiveness of the campaign – showing how it fulfilled the client’s brief. They also had to give clear examples of the results achieved and how the effectiveness of the campaign was measured.

Steve Turton, Director, Turton Middleton ( www.turtonmiddleton.com ) commented, “We are thrilled to receive this award in recognition for our work on The Original London Banger. It is now a really well established brand. The campaign and the product have both exceeded the client’s expectations. One of the key elements in the success was the fact that we were involved with the project from inception to the launch of the brand, then right through to the design of the packaging, advertising and point of sale activity. The ability to work so closely with the client was every bit as important as the creativity we were able to bring to the campaign.

“I’m very proud of the team, they worked hard on this campaign and deserve the recognition. In many ways this sums up Turton Middleton. The brand is at the heart of everything we do. Add to that genuine creativity and the ability to work closely with clients and you have a recipe for highly effective campaigns.”
