ENCINITAS, Calif., March. 21, 2011 – Hansen Surfboards, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is going barefoot April 5 to raise awareness for One Day Without Shoes.
In accordance with the organizers of One Day Without Shoes, large numbers of children grow up without shoes and are susceptible to infection and disease as a consequence of it.
“We’re taking part in One Day Without Shoes because we wish people to come into our store and ask why everyone seems to be barefoot,” said Josh Hansen. “We’re doing this for the people who find themselves going barefoot because they have no choice. The impact of 2 shoes would be huge on a person’s life if that person didn’t have shoes before.”
To add to One Day Without Shoes, Hansen Surfboards also participates in Soles4Souls every year. The campaign encourages people to leave their unwanted shoes at Hansen Surfboards in exchange for a discounted 10% off a brand new pair of shoes or sandals for every pair donated at the store.
“The donated shoes add up pretty quickly, so whenever we can’t keep any more of them gathered in the back of the store, I drive out to Las Vegas with a trailer full of these shoes and donate them to charity so people without shoes can use them,” added Josh. “Last year I drove out there with 3,500 pounds of shoes. It’s one of our best programs here because we all know that it has such a big impact.”
