Ashburn, VA, January 31, 2011 — The IJIS Institute, a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety, and homeland security, announces that VisionAIR, Inc. has upgraded its member status to become the organization’s sixth Sustaining Member. VisionAIR has been a Member of the IJIS Institute since April 1, 2003.

The Board of Directors of the IJIS Institute approved the creation of the Sustaining Member program last year. This elite class of membership in the IJIS Institute provides companies with a more significant and tangible way in which to support the Institute and its programs. In addition to significant financial support, Sustaining Members lend expertise and partner with the IJIS Institute in special projects that further the mission of the Institute and promote information sharing successes.

Sustaining Members of the IJIS Institute receive a number of benefits in addition to those of regular Members, including enhanced recognition on the Institute’s web site and in other promotional materials, expanded allowances for event attendance and participation, invitation-only meetings with industry and government leaders and private briefings by IJIS Institute executive staff on strategic issues important to the information sharing initiatives and standards. Sustaining Membership is an excellent avenue for companies to express good corporate citizenship on a national level.

The IJIS Institute’s President and CEO of VisionAIR, Mike Lyons, noted, “VisionAIR joined the Sustaining Member program to support the work and mission of the IJIS Institute at a more substantial level. We also want to further our engagement in programs and projects within the framework of the IJIS Institute that will advance the national capability to provide information sharing that will make government agencies more efficient and make our nation safer.”

Steve Ambrosini, the IJIS Institute’s acting executive director, stated, “I am delighted to welcome VisionAIR as a Sustaining Member. Over the past 20 years, VisionAIR has been dedicated to bringing technological solutions to the public safety and criminal justice community. And as part of that community, VisionAIR staff and Mike have been steadfast supporters of the IJIS Institute and our mission for over seven years. They have contributed to our committees, supported our events, and served on our Board of Directors. So, while it is gratifying, it is not surprising that they have stepped up to this increased level of commitment.”

It should be noted that VisionAIR was one of the first companies to promote and support the use of N-DEx, the Law Enforcement National Data Exchange. Use of the N-DEx Information Exchange Package Documentation (IEPD) as a national standard for incident and arrest data can help to solidify a national information strategy benefiting all U.S. law enforcement agencies across the country.
