Limerick County Council says it is continuing to repair burst water pipes in various parts of the County.
The local authority is urging customers to conserve water to the maximum extent possible but added that interruptions in supply were inevitable over the coming days.
The Council has confirmed there is a water outage in Herbertstown at present as a result of burst pipes. Parts of Ballylanders and Kilfinane also have no water following a drop in reservoir levels. Elsewhere, water will be turned off during today in housing estates in Caherconlish and Oola while services to schools and businesses will be maintained where possible.
Further water outages will occur tonight in order to allow reservoirs recover in some areas. Affected areas will include Caherconlish, Doon Reservoir, Pallasgreen and Oola.
According to Mr. Donal Brennan, Senior Engineer, Limerick County Council: “At the moment water supplies around the county are subject to periodic interruptions. Water pipes have burst at various locations in recent days and other such incidences will occur as the thaw continues.”
“Council crews are continuing their efforts to maintain supplies and the public are asked to promptly repair any leaks within their premises. We will continue to ensure that disruption to public water supplies is kept to a minimum and supplies are restored as soon as practicable”, he added.
Limerick County Council is advising members of the public to follow their advice should their water supply be interrupted over the coming days. “Most premises have water storage in an attic tank and we would ask customers to use this water sparingly. Water for drinking purposes accounts for a very small proportion of water normally used in a household, for example showers, clothes washing and dishwashing. If using water from the attic tank, the advice is to boil and cool this water before drinking”, stated Mr. Brennan.
Meanwhile, Limerick County Council is continuing to provide water at static standpipes in various locations.
