When writing student essay, one need to be very careful while citing the sources, in fact they should show care for the citation of the resources. Documentation of sources saves students from the unwanted plagiarism. This is why, it is crucial that they make sure that they have credited each and every source in their student essays. There are two types of citation methods for essays for students that are frequently used in high schools, colleges and universities, they are as follows:

Generally preferred by the students to write students essay, parenthetical referencing method requires the citation to be place close to the material that you have taken while the name of the author’s last name and the page number is place at the end in parenthesis in order to give credit to the sources used.

Bibliography or reference list is placed at the end of the essay that is corresponding to the parenthetical referencing.

Author’s last name, First name.”Title: subtitle of part of web page, if appropriate.”Sponsoring/publishing agency, if given. Additional information. Date of electronic publication or last updated day. Date of the access.

2. If you are citing from a newspaper article then your referencing would be:

Author’s last name, First name.”Title of the article”. Title of newspaper (publication city if not in the name) Date of publication, edition: Page numbers

3. If you are taking material from magazine article then your referencing would be:

Author’s last name, First name.”Title of the article”. Title of newspaper (publication city if not in the name) Date of publication, edition: Page numbers

4. If you are citing from journal article then your referencing would be:

Author’s last name, First name.” Title of article”. Title of the journal Volume. Year and date of publication: Page numbers.

5. If you are taking material from a particular chapter of a book then your referencing would be:

Author’s last name, First name.” Title of book chapter”. Title of the book. Place of publication: Publisher, Date of publication. Page numbers.

6. If you are citing from a book then your referencing would be:

Author’s last name, First name. Title of the book. Place of publication: Publisher, Date of Publication.

7. If you are citing from an interview then your referencing would be:

Interviewee last name, First name. Interview, Type of interview. By interviewer first name last name. Publication information: page number if appropriate.

Therefore, make sure you are very careful while documenting sources for your students essays because many time careless searching and writing habits creates several plagiarism problems for the students which result into not only bad grades but also bad impression because of free student essays.
