Dallas, TX, January 23, 2010 — Custom Acoustic Liposuction (CAL) www.cal-now.com is the latest technique of fat removal introduced in the spring of 2009 to the United States with Dr. Mauricio Giraldo, M.D. and Dr. Chili Robinson, M.D. playing a key developmental role. Dr. Robinson serves as the Medical Advisor for Medical Alliance Services, www.medicalallianceservices.com.

Since then, hundreds of procedures have been performed with excellent cosmetic results. This innovative technique uses a low frequency vibration cannula, or pipette, that simultaneously moves in three different ways: circular, lateral and reciprocal. When adipose tissue is exposed to this vibrating effect, it turns into an emulsion of viable fat cells readily available to be aspirated without trauma. As a result, enough fat tissue becomes suitable for subsequent transfer procedures such as breast augmentation and buttock lift. Dr. Robinson, Chief of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery at MediLaser Surgery and Vein Center in Frisco, Texas, www.medilasersurgery.com has further improved the technique to achieve the highest degree of body sculpting possible today.

Custom Acoustic Liposuction tightens the skin and removes accumulated adipose tissue from subtle areas of the already fitted body in order to provide a next to ideal contour. “I was given the hourglass shape I had never had and the amount of compliments I get now is unbelievable,” said T.R. a 42 year old patient from North Carolina. Indeed, patients not only recover their younger silhouette, but some may even acquire the shape they never had. This is possible because of the safe and sound sculpting work of sub dermal spaces located in critical aesthetic regions, such as neck, arms, back, flanks, inner thighs, knees and ankles. CAL provides the edge to safely perform aggressive contouring of the tissue directly under the skin, without causing perforation or burns. The instruments used in CAL stay cool, thus eliminate the risk of thermal injury to tissue. “We have successfully removed an average of 1500 ml of fat from non-overweight patients obtaining outstanding results, even beyond our expectations,” said Mauricio Giraldo, M.D., MediLaser surgeon.

Custom Acoustic Liposuction is possible because of the precise removal of fat that spares non-adipose structures such as skin, blood vessels, nerves and muscle. Consequently, the tissue under the skin of problematic areas can be worked well without damage. Furthermore, the effect of the method usually continues beyond the procedure itself. The skin reacts with a progressive tightening that further contours the new body core. This phenomenon is caused by the vibrating cannula against the dermis that triggers healing signals to recruit collagen producing cells. This mechanism of skin tightening is different than other liposuction techniques such as ultrasound, laser and radiofrequency ablation which initiate heat mediated collagen retraction. “By causing a controlled subcutaneous wound, CAL simply tricks the body to produce more collagen in treated areas,” Dr. Giraldo added.

In addition to the benefits above described, CAL has been exceptionally successful in re-do liposuctions. Previous fat extractions procedures create scar tissue and fibrosis that increase the risk of trauma and bleeding of subsequent liposuctions. The gentle vibrating effect of CAL makes the traveling of the cannula throughout the scarred subcutaneous space smooth and easy. There is no trauma and the blood loss is minimal. Likewise, CAL can be performed in the context of previous tummy tucks. Again, CAL cannulas softly travel through fibrous tissue as the related residual fat is separated and subsequently removed. Drs. Robinson and Giraldo have successfully performed this procedure in patients who have residual lateral fat accumulation after tummy tucks and in patients with abnormal fat accumulation just distal to the C-section surgical scars.

A European review study published in 2006 concluded that custom acoustic liposuction (CAL) is the most safe, effective and precise surgery that can be used in any of the modern indications of liposuction. This study compared suction assisted lipolysis (SAL), laser assisted liposuction (LAL), power assisted liposuction (PAL), internal ultrasound assisted liposuction (iUAL), external assisted liposuction (eUAL), and VASSER assisted liposuction. Dr. Robinson arrived to the same conclusion based on his experience in the United States. Finally, CAL liposuction is built with a safety feature that deactivates the vibrating device when the cannula reaches a non-fat structure such as skin or muscle. In addition, since it is not a heat mediated fat melting process, CAL does not cause thermal injuries and, because it is performed under local anesthesia, the patient indicates whether there is a harmful stimulus or not. To date, there are no reported mortalities or major complications related to CAL.

Both Drs. Robinson and Giraldo play an integral part in the National Physician Observation Program, a service introduced by Medical Alliance Services. Essentially, this program will create qualified centers devoted to the direct transfer of information about Custom Acoustic Liposuction from physician to physician. These dedicated offices, or Physician Observation Centers, will allow interested doctors to monitor procedures and ask questions to the operating physicians. Dr. Robinson states, “Since 1981, I have used most of the liposuction technologies on the market. Now I am very excited to have access to this proven tool. While working with physicians in Europe I was able to gather the data and the experience I needed to implement CAL into my practice. I recommend CAL to other physicians as part of their aesthetic procedures offering.” Paul Herchman, CEO of Medical Alliance Services, created this opportunity for doctors to enhance their technical, practical, clinical and procedural knowledge of CAL in an authentic medical setting. Herchman says, “In today’s tough economic times and competitive markets it is very difficult for knowledgeable practicing physicians to take the time to share experience with their peers. By allowing visiting physicians to observe actual genuine procedures in the Observation Centers, physicians are able to ask and answer questions in “real-time” about Custom Acoustic Liposuction and its processes without having to travel long distances. We believe that transferring information via physician-to-physician is vital to empowering the doctor to make educated decisions about technology and help deliver the best patient care possible.”

Medical Alliance Services will be announcing specific information about these centers in the coming months. Physicians’ wishing to observe CAL procedures at a Physician Observation Center should contact (866) 981-5017 or visit [email protected] for further information.
