Australian discount flight site, Direct Flights, is offering new low-cost airfares to Africa with classy newcomer to Australia, Qatar Airways, from $1307 return, including taxes.

Flights to 10 African destinations are available, including Cape Town. Johannesburg, Casablanca, Nairobi, Tripoli and Tunis, for travel from December 6, 2009, to April 30, 2010.

The Africa fares from Qatar’s first Australian destination, Melbourne, start at $1307 return, including taxes. Interlined Qatar fares from other cities, using Virgin Blue or Jetstar connections to Melbourne, are priced from $1510 from Adelaide and Canberra, $1535 from Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, $1562 from Hobart and $1744 from Darwin and Perth.

The special fares are on sale via www.directflights.com.au until October 9, 2009, with no extra booking fees charged

Direct Flights customers can also reserve discount accommodation, transfers, car hire, tours and attractions in Africa while booking their flights online.

Qatar Airways’ services from Australia to Africa and also Europe fly via Qatar’s Middle East base in Doha – the capital of Qatar (pronounced ‘ka-tar’) – near the United Arab Emirates.

Qatar will launch its first Australian services from Melbourne to Doha and beyond on December 6, 2009.

Qatar was voted by Skytrax this year as having the world’s best Economy Class cabin and service. Based on votes by 16 million passengers in 95 countries, the independent aviation industry monitoring agency also gave Qatar five stars for its service and standards and ranked the airline the best in the Middle East for the fourth year running.

While many airlines spruce their premium classes, Qatar recently revamped its economy cabin, with an above average seat space pitch of 34 inches, offering more leg room, and making its meal service more stylish.

Stopover visits in Doha will be available, with the exotic capital set to follow in the footsteps of Dubai and Abu Dhabi as a popular stopover destination for Australians heading to Africa or Europe.

Fares are subject to availability and increases in taxes and fuel charges. Conditions apply.
