Hansen Surfboards Goes Barefoot to Raise Awareness for One Day Without Shoes April 5
ENCINITAS, Calif., March. 21, 2011 – Hansen Surfboards, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, will go barefoot April 5 to increase awareness for One Day Without Shoes.
Research through the organizers of One Day Without Shoes have found that large numbers of kids around the world don’t own any shoes and as such, run the increased risk of infection and disease.
“We’re participating in One Day Without Shoes because we wish people to walk into our store and ask why everyone seems to be barefoot,” said Josh Hansen. “We are doing this for the people who are going barefoot because they have no choice. The impact of a pair of shoes can be huge on a person’s life if that person didn’t have shoes before.”
In addition to One Day Without Shoes, Hansen Surfboards also participates in Soles4Souls every year. The campaign encourages the public to leave their unwanted shoes at Hansen Surfboards in exchange for a discounted 10% off a new pair of shoes or sandals for every pair donated within the store.
“The donated shoes accumulate pretty quickly, and when we can’t keep more of them gathered at the back of the store, I drive out to Las Vegas towing a trailer full of the shoes and donate them to charity so people without shoes can use them,” added Josh. “Last year I drove there with a trailer filled with 3,500 pounds of shoes. It is certainly one of our favorite programs here because we all know that it has such a huge impact.”
